Welcome to Postal Pursuits
Our current window display is a mini thematic based on Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 days”. The main challenge was fitting the story with philatelic material to support and illustrate the story on 25 A5 cards. We could easily have filled twice as many pages. Coming up next is a fun window based on ‘Catchphrases’.
In 2010 Postal Pursuits opened the first new Stamp shop in the UK in a generation. Although keeping the best of what is traditional about stamp shops we have undertaken to make stamp collecting and philately far more visible to the general public. From the informative presentations and single frame exhibits in the windows, currently showing a ‘starting to collect stamps’ guide, to the upstairs philatelic gallery, we openly welcome and encourage all ages to experience the joys of our hobby. In March 2011 we formally opened the upstairs library, browsing area and re-furbished meeting rooms which is open to use by societies and clubs to host meetings. In 2013 we have already seen a visit from the South African collectors club and on June 22 the National Philatelic Society will be holding a meeting here.
Our web site incorporates an on-line shop and has a dedicated blog area for Postal Pursuits, local stamp clubs and collectors worldwide. As time permits a comprehensive events calendar will develop for fairs, meetings and exhibitions along with a searchable links page to show the best of what is available on the net. Help with this development would be very much appreciated.
Postal Pursuits has a positive educational policy and develops educational material for use in the shop and in schools. In conjunction with the North Herts Stamp Club and a local artist a Junior section will be starting in early 2013 bringing together stamp collecting/exhibiting and art based on the use of stamps.
Please find below some interesting philatelic items currently on eBay that we have filtered for your general enjoyment. Pop back regularly as we will be changing what type of material is presented here from time to time. The money from just your clicks on these items helps us support our social program.
